Austenitic stainless steels are among the most widely used alloys. With at least 17% chromium, these steels also contain nickel and may include molybdenum, titanium, or niobium. Nickel ensures an austenitic structure, enhancing corrosion resistance. The high molybdenum content in 1.4435, 316L, X2CrNiMo18-14-3 stainless steel improves resistance to chlorides, sulfuric acid, and organic acids, making it an excellent choice for demanding environments. While this steel is non-magnetic when soft, it may become magnetic after cold working. Compared to 1.4404, this alloy offers superior pitting resistance due to more molybdenum. It is easy to weld using standard techniques, and post-weld heat treatment is unnecessary if welded in an annealed state.
