Austenitic steels are the most popular and widely used among steel alloys. With a chromium content of 17% as well as nickel, and additions like molybdenum, titanium, or niobium, these steels offer excellent corrosion resistance. Nickel ensures the austenitic structure, while the high molybdenum content increases resistance to chlorides, sulfuric acid, and organic acids. This makes 1.4435, 316L, X2CrNiMo18-14-3 stainless steel an excellent choice for applications requiring outstanding corrosion protection. In its soft form, this steel is non-magnetic, but it may become magnetic after cold working. Thanks to its higher molybdenum content, this alloy has better pitting resistance than material 1.4404. It is also easy to weld using standard methods, and no post-weld heat treatment is needed if welded in the annealed condition.
