Austenitic stainless steels are among the most widely used alloys, featuring 17% chromium, nickel, and additions such as molybdenum, titanium, or niobium. The nickel content ensures an austenitic structure, enhancing corrosion resistance. Molybdenum significantly improves resistance to chlorides, sulfuric acid, and organic acids, making 1.4435, 316L, X2CrNiMo18-14-3 stainless steel an excellent choice for demanding environments. This alloy is non-magnetic in its annealed state but may become slightly magnetic after cold working. Thanks to its higher molybdenum content, it offers better pitting resistance than 1.4404. The steel is easily weldable by all standard methods and does not require post-weld heat treatment when welded in the annealed condition.
