Austenitic steels are among the most widely used steel alloys. They contain about 17% chromium, nickel, and may also include elements like molybdenum, titanium, or niobium. The presence of nickel ensures an austenitic structure, which enhances corrosion resistance. Thanks to a higher molybdenum content, these alloys are particularly resistant to chlorides, sulfuric acid, and organic acids. This makes 1.4435, 316L, X2CrNiMo18-14-3 stainless steel an excellent choice for applications demanding superior corrosion resistance. In its annealed state, this steel is non-magnetic, though it may become magnetic after cold working. Compared to 1.4404, this alloy offers improved pitting resistance. It can be welded easily with all standard methods, and post-weld heat treatment is not required if welded in the annealed condition.
