Austenitic steels are the most commonly used among steel alloys. These steels typically contain 17% chromium, nickel, and additional elements such as molybdenum, titanium, or niobium. The presence of nickel ensures an austenitic structure, enhancing corrosion resistance. Molybdenum further improves resistance to chlorides, sulfuric acid, and organic acids, making stainless steel grades like 1.4435, 316L, and X2CrNiMo18-14-3 ideal for environments demanding exceptional corrosion protection. While this steel is non-magnetic in its soft state, cold working can induce magnetism. Thanks to its higher molybdenum content, it offers superior pitting resistance compared to 1.4404. This material is easily weldable with standard techniques and does not require post-weld heat treatment if welded in the annealed condition.
