Brass round bar (material number 2.0401, CuZn39Pb3, Ms58) is an alloy primarily made of copper (57-59%), zinc (36-40%), and lead (2.5-3.5%). This material offers excellent machinability and is well suited for both soft and hard soldering. It can be easily hot formed to achieve high hardness and strength, though cold forming should be limited to avoid stress corrosion cracking. Brass round bars are not suitable for electrolytic or chemical polishing but can be mechanically polished and punched. Please note: Length tolerance is +/-2mm. The ends of sawn bars may be sharp and not deburred; supplied bars may differ in appearance from production length photos. This alloy is best welded using resistance welding methods, as other welding processes (manual arc, gas, TIG, MIG) are not recommended due to the lead content. Brass 2.0401 has relatively low corrosion resistance and is not suitable for use with aggressive media such as water, various salt solutions, or organic liquids. Typical applications include fittings, tap handles, screws, nuts, valve bodies, parts for electrical and general mechanical engineering, cable clamps, and ballpoint pen tips.
