Heat-resistant stainless steel 1.4828 is an austenitic chromium-nickel-silicon alloy that withstands oxidation in air at temperatures up to 950°C. Also known as H20N12S2, it has a chemical composition similar to X15CrNiSi25-21 and 1.4841, but with slightly lower chromium and nickel content. Silicon and carbon levels remain consistent among these materials. Grade selection depends on both cost and the aggressiveness of the working environment, as alloying elements influence price. 1.4828 can be used at temperatures up to 1100 – 1150°C.
This steel grade is resistant to nitriding, carbonitriding, carburizing atmospheres, embrittlement at high operating temperatures, and gases containing nitrogen and oxygen.
