Heat-resistant steel 1.4828 is an austenitic chromium-nickel-silicon stainless steel designed to resist oxidation in air at temperatures up to 950 °C. The alloy H20N12S2 is chemically similar to X15CrNiSi25-21 and 1.4841.
Compared to similar materials, 1.4828 contains relatively lower amounts of chromium and nickel, but shares the same levels of silicon and carbon. Selection of the appropriate grade depends on the cost, which is influenced by the alloying elements and the demands of the working environment. 1.4828 can be used at temperatures up to 1100–1150 °C.
This material is resistant to nitriding, carbonitriding, carburizing atmospheres, embrittlement at high temperatures, and gases containing nitrogen and oxygen.
