Steel grade 1.4828 is an austenitic chromium-nickel-silicon stainless steel that offers excellent oxidation resistance in air at temperatures up to 950°C. It shares a similar chemical composition with X15CrNiSi25-21 (1.4841).
This material stands out due to its comparatively lower chromium and nickel content, while maintaining consistent silicon and carbon levels. The selection of this grade often depends on the cost, which is influenced by alloying elements and the demands of the operating environment. 1.4828 can be used at temperatures up to 1100 - 1150°C.
1.4828 is resistant to nitriding, carbonitriding, carburizing atmospheres, embrittlement at high temperatures, and gases containing nitrogen and oxygen.
