Grade 1.4828 is an austenitic chromium-nickel-silicon stainless steel known for its heat resistance and oxidation resistance in air up to 950°C. It is also referred to as H20N12S2 and has a similar chemical composition to X15CrNiSi25-21 (1.4841).
This material differs from related grades by having relatively lower chromium and nickel content, but shares similar silicon and carbon levels. The selection of a specific grade usually depends on the cost, which is influenced by the amount of alloying elements and the demands of the operating environment. 1.4828 can be used at temperatures up to 1100–1150°C.
1.4828 offers resistance to nitriding, carbonitriding, and carburizing atmospheres, as well as embrittlement at high temperatures and gases containing nitrogen and oxygen.
