Steel grade 1.4828 is an austenitic chromium-nickel-silicon stainless steel with excellent oxidation resistance in air up to 950°C. Also known as H20N12S2, it closely resembles X15CrNiSi25-21 (1.4841) in chemical composition.
Compared to other grades, 1.4828 contains lower levels of chromium and nickel, but shares the same silicon and carbon content. The selection of this material depends on cost, which is influenced by alloying elements and the application environment. 1.4828 is suitable for use at temperatures up to 1100–1150°C.
This steel is highly resistant to nitriding, carbonitriding, carburizing atmospheres, embrittlement at high temperatures, and gases containing nitrogen and oxygen.
