Heat-resistant steel 1.4828 is an austenitic chromium-nickel-silicon stainless steel, offering oxidation resistance in air up to 950 °C. H20N12S2 is chemically similar to X15CrNiSi25-21 and 1.4841.
These materials differ mainly in their lower chromium and nickel content, while sharing similar silicon and carbon levels. The selection of grade depends on the price, which is influenced by alloy content and the required resistance to aggressive environments. Steel 1.4828 is suitable for use at temperatures up to 1100–1150 °C.
1.4828 steel is resistant to nitriding, carbonitriding, carburizing environments, embrittlement at high temperatures, and gases containing nitrogen and oxygen.
