Steel grade 1.4828 is a heat-resistant, austenitic stainless steel alloyed with chromium, nickel, and silicon. It offers excellent oxidation resistance in air up to 950°C. The material H20N12S2 closely resembles X15CrNiSi25-21 (1.4841) in its chemical makeup.
Compared to similar materials, 1.4828 contains relatively lower levels of chromium and nickel but maintains the same silicon and carbon content. The choice between grades depends on both price and the requirements of the intended application, especially regarding alloying elements and environmental aggressiveness. 1.4828 can be used at continuous temperatures as high as 1100–1150°C.
This material is resistant to nitriding, carbonitriding, carburizing atmospheres, embrittlement at high temperatures, and to gases containing nitrogen and oxygen.
