The brass hexagon with material number 2.0401 is made from a copper-zinc-lead alloy, consisting of approximately 57-59% copper, 36-40% zinc, and 2.5-3.5% lead. Known as CuZn39Pb3, this alloy is highly popular for machining applications in Germany. It is especially suitable for use on automatic lathes and is easy to punch, though it has relatively low resistance to corrosion. The material can be hot-formed very well, but cold-forming is limited due to the risk of stress corrosion cracking. High levels of hardness and strength can be achieved through cold working.
