Our brass hexagon bar, material number 2.0401, is an alloy of copper, zinc, and lead, with a copper content of 57-59%, zinc at 36-40%, and lead at 2.5-3.5%. Known as CuZn39Pb3, this alloy is one of the most popular materials for machining in Germany and is ideal for use on automatic lathes. While it is easy to punch and work with at high temperatures, its cold formability is limited due to the risk of stress corrosion cracking. However, cold working does improve its hardness and strength. Please note, this brass grade offers only limited corrosion resistance.
