The brass hexagon with material number 2.0401 is composed of a copper-zinc-lead alloy, containing approximately 57-59% copper, 36-40% zinc, and 2.5-3.5% lead. Known as CuZn39Pb3, it is the primary alloy for machining applications in Germany, making it ideal for use in automatic machines. While hexagonal brass is easy to punch and offers excellent machinability, it has relatively low corrosion resistance. The material can be hot-formed very well, but cold forming is only recommended to a limited extent due to the risk of stress corrosion. Cold working enhances its hardness and strength.
