Zirconium, a heavy metal from the titanium group, is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, flexibility, and softness. It is easy to roll, forge, and hammer, and while it is a poor conductor of electricity, it conducts heat relatively well. Zirconium reacts with most nonmetals at high temperatures and is stable in air due to passivation. It is resistant to acids but can be attacked by aqua regia and hydrofluoric acid at room temperature. Zirconium is not affected by aqueous bases and, in finely divided form, displays pyrophoric properties. It is non-toxic and naturally present in the human body.
