Zirconium is a heavy metal in the titanium group, known for its exceptional corrosion resistance, flexibility, and softness. It is easy to roll, forge, and hammer. While zirconium does not conduct electricity well, it is a relatively good conductor of heat. At elevated temperatures, it reacts with most nonmetals, but due to passivation, it remains stable in air. The metal is acid-resistant, though it can be affected by aqua regia and hydrofluoric acid at room temperature. Zirconium does not react with aqueous bases and, in powdered form, is pyrophoric. It is non-toxic and naturally present in the body.
