Zirconium is easy to process by rolling, forging, and hammering. It has low electrical conductivity but conducts heat relatively well. At elevated temperatures, it reacts with most nonmetals and remains stable in air due to a protective oxide layer. Zirconium resists acids but can be attacked by aqua regia and hydrofluoric acid at room temperature. It is not sensitive to aqueous bases and, in powder form, can be pyrophoric. Zirconium is non-toxic and naturally occurs in the body.
