Titanium Grade 5 (material number 3.7165) is the most popular titanium alloy, consisting of approximately 88.74–91.0% titanium, 5.5–6.75% aluminum, 3.5–4.5% vanadium, and 0.015% hydrogen. Unlike commercially pure titanium, Titanium 3.7165 can be age-hardened up to 25 mm thickness. This alloy offers excellent hot formability and weldability, outstanding corrosion resistance—including in seawater—and combines high strength with good toughness at a low weight. It is particularly resistant to crack initiation and propagation.
