Description:
Steel grade 1.4057 (also referred to as ASTM 431 and SS2321) is a martensitic stainless steel with high tensile strength and good machinability. The steel is well suited for producing corrosion resistance details by machining and where the steel needs to be resistant to strong oxidizing acids e.g. Nitric acid. The steel is magnetic and in the tempered condition.
1.4057 is most commonly used for applications where the 12% chromium steels do not have adequate corrosion resistance or the toughness of the 12% martensitic stainless steels is insufficient.
1.4057 is weldable and is welded with filler metals similar to that of the parent. The steel is generally easier to machine than "conventional" austenitic steels. The heat treatment condition of 1.4057 is QT 800 and it should be hot worked in the temperature range of 1100-800°C. Slow cooling after hot forming.
