Tungsten is a high-density heavy metal belonging to the chromium group of transition metals, notable for having the highest melting and boiling points among all metals. It is ductile, medium-hard, and very strong, with paramagnetic properties and excellent heat and electrical conductivity. Chemically, tungsten is similar to molybdenum, stable in air, and resistant to both non-oxidizing acids and water. Thanks to a protective oxide layer, it also withstands oxidizing acids, but it can dissolve in hydrofluoric and nitric acid mixtures.
