Grade 5 titanium, also known as titanium 3.7165, is the most commonly used titanium alloy. It contains approximately 88.74–91.0% titanium, 5.5–6.75% aluminum, 3.5–4.5% vanadium, and 0.015% hydrogen. With material number 3.7165, this alloy can be heat treated (up to 25 mm thickness), unlike pure titanium. It offers excellent hot formability, weldability, and outstanding resistance to corrosion, including in seawater. Grade 5 titanium is known for its high strength, good toughness, low density, and exceptional resistance to crack initiation and propagation.
