Zirconium is a heavy metal belonging to the titanium group, known for its exceptional corrosion resistance, good flexibility, and relative softness. It can be easily rolled, forged, and hammered. While it conducts heat well, it is a poor conductor of electricity. Zirconium reacts with most nonmetals at high temperatures but remains stable in air due to passivation. The metal is highly resistant to acids, though it can be attacked by aqua regia and hydrofluoric acid at room temperature. It is stable in aqueous bases and, in powdered form, is pyrophoric.
