The metal boasts a high melting point, excellent ductility at room temperature, and readily absorbs gases. Niobium is highly resistant to air and most acids at room temperature, but is unstable in hot alkalis. In powdered form, niobium is pyrophoric. It also exhibits outstanding biocompatibility.
