    Niobium is a rare, heavy transition metal in the vanadium group. Thanks to its low hardness, it is easy to work with, such as by forging. Niobium features a very high melting point, excellent ductility at room temperature, and readily absorbs gases. It is highly resistant to air and most acids at room temperature, but unstable in hot alkalis. In powder form, niobium can be pyrophoric. The metal is also notable for its good biocompatibility.
