    Niobium is a rare, heavy transition metal found in the vanadium group. Its low hardness makes it easy to work with, for example in forging. Niobium features a very high melting point, excellent ductility at room temperature, and easily absorbs gases. It is highly resistant to air exposure and most acids at room temperature, but unstable in hot alkalis. In powder form, niobium can be pyrophoric. The metal also offers outstanding biocompatibility.
