This material is known for its high tensile strength and outstanding resistance to corrosion, seawater, most acids, and alkalis. It maintains good mechanical properties at temperatures up to about 550°C and resists stress corrosion cracking. Monel® 400 is not affected by hydrofluoric acid, fluorine, or their compounds, and cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
