This brass square bar is made from material 2.0401, also known as Ms58 or CuZn39Pb3. This copper-tin-lead alloy contains up to 59% copper and 1.7–2.8% lead, with the balance being tin. The alloy is well-suited to hot forming, but less so for cold forming. It offers good corrosion resistance and can be easily polished mechanically. 2.0401 is known for its excellent machinability and is ideal for automatic machining. Soft soldering is the preferred joining method for this material, and it is only suitable for resistance welding—gas welding is not recommended.
