The material 1.4742 is a heat-resistant chromium steel with an aluminum additive and a ferritic structure, used for working at high temperatures for elements without heavy loads. The material 1.4742 has heat resistance of up to 1050 ℃ in air and is very well resistant to environments containing sulfur compounds and reducing gases.

It is characterized by relatively good machinability and excellent resistance to smelting gases.

The relatively low price, resulting from the limited nickel content or the complete absence of nickel in the composition, means that the material with a ferritic structure is resistant to cold forming and that welding requires additional heat treatment steps in the range of 750-800 °C with cooling in air. The brittleness of steel occurs in the temperature range of 450-530 °C.

Grade 1.4742 is used as steel for burners, parts of furnaces and reactors, furnace pipe covers, heat-resistant boiler elements, holders for heaters, and apparatus and machine parts in the plastics industry, as well as plastic dryers.
