Material 1.4742 is a heat-resistant chromium steel alloyed with aluminum, featuring a ferritic structure. It is designed for high-temperature applications involving components that do not bear heavy loads. This grade withstands temperatures up to 1050℃ in air and offers excellent resistance to sulfur-containing atmospheres and reducing gases.
1.4742 boasts good machinability and outstanding resistance to carburizing gases at low temperatures.
Due to its limited or nickel-free composition, this ferritic steel is cost-effective and well-suited for cold forming and welding. After welding, heat treatment at 750-800°C followed by air cooling is recommended. However, the material can become brittle within the temperature range of 450-530°C.
