Material 1.4742 is a heat-resistant chromium steel alloyed with aluminum, featuring a ferritic structure. It is designed for high-temperature applications where heavy mechanical loads are not present. This steel can withstand temperatures up to 1050℃ in air and is highly resistant to sulfur-containing environments and reducing gases.
1.4742 offers good machinability and excellent resistance to low-temperature carburizing gases. Its competitive price is due to a reduced or absent nickel content. This ferritic steel is well-suited for cold working processes and welding, with optimal heat treatment at 750-800°C followed by air cooling. However, it becomes brittle between 450-530°C.
This grade is widely used in the manufacture of burners, furnace and reactor components, furnace pipe caps, heat-resistant boiler elements, heater supports, as well as apparatus and machine parts in the plastics industry and plastic dryers.
