Material 1.4742 is a heat-resistant chromium steel alloyed with aluminum and featuring a ferritic structure. It is designed for high-temperature applications where heavy loads are not present. This grade offers heat resistance up to 1050℃ in air and performs well in environments containing sulfur compounds and reducing gases.
1.4742 offers good machinability and exceptional resistance to carburizing gases at low temperatures.
Thanks to its low or completely absent nickel content, this steel is cost-effective and maintains resistance to cold working and welding. After welding, heat treatment between 750-800°C followed by air cooling is required. Be aware that the steel can become brittle at temperatures between 450-530°C.
Common uses for 1.4742 include components for burners, furnace and reactor parts, furnace pipe caps, heat-resistant boiler elements, heater brackets, and various machine parts in the plastics industry and plastic dryers.
