Used in steel production as a cleaning agent for iron and steel. Ferrotitanium has a high reactivity towards sulphur, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen, forms insoluble compounds and isolates them in the slag. It is therefore used for the deoxidation and alloying of steel and sometimes also for desulphurization and denitrification. In the production of steel, the addition of titanium produces a metal with a finer grain structure. Ferrotitanium powder can also be used as a fuel in some pyrotechnic compositions.
