Ferrotitanium is widely used in steel manufacturing as a purifying agent for iron and steel. Its strong reactivity with sulphur, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen forms stable, insoluble compounds that are removed in the slag. This makes ferrotitanium ideal for deoxidizing and alloying steel, as well as for desulphurization and denitrification processes. Adding titanium to steel refines the grain structure, resulting in improved metal quality. Additionally, ferrotitanium powder is sometimes used as a fuel in pyrotechnic applications.
