This product is used in the steel industry as a refining agent for iron and steel. Ferrotitanium is highly reactive with sulphur, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, forming insoluble compounds that are separated into slag. It is commonly used for steel deoxidation and alloying, and sometimes for desulphurization and denitrification. Adding titanium to steel helps achieve a finer grain structure. Ferrotitanium powder is also utilized as a fuel in certain pyrotechnic mixtures.
