Ferrotitanium is commonly used in steel manufacturing as a cleaning agent for iron and steel. It reacts strongly with sulphur, carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen, forming compounds that are removed in the slag. As a result, it is ideal for deoxidizing, alloying, and sometimes for desulphurizing and denitrifying steel. Adding titanium during steel production results in a finer grain structure. Ferrotitanium powder is also used as a fuel in certain pyrotechnic applications.
