They are made from stainless steel grade 1.4310 (AISI 301, EN X10CrNi18-8), which is known for its good corrosion resistance, high tensile strength (600–950 MPa), and suitability for spring applications. The material is relatively magnetic due to its microstructure, which contains martensite formed during cold working.Typical uses include manufacturing of spring components and other parts that require increased strength and durability. The rods can be welded at temperatures up to 200 °C and forged between 900 °C and 1200 °C.
