Zinc is a brittle transition metal known for its high ductility at temperatures between 120°C and 150°C, making it easy to roll into sheets and wires. It remains stable in air due to passivation and can be converted into powder at 220°C. In powder form, zinc is pyrophoric and may ignite spontaneously in air at room temperature. Zinc dissolves in acids to form salts and hydrogen, and in alkalis to form zincates—but ultra-high-purity zinc (99.999%) is resistant to acids.
