Zinc is a brittle transition metal known for its ductility at temperatures between 120°C and 150°C, making it easy to roll into sheets and wires. It remains stable in air thanks to passivation. At 220°C, zinc can be converted into powder, which is pyrophoric and can ignite spontaneously at room temperature. Zinc dissolves in acids, producing salts and hydrogen, and reacts with alkalis to form zincates. High-purity zinc (99.999%) is resistant to acids.
