Zinc is a brittle metal from the zinc group, notable for its ductility at temperatures between 120°C and 150°C, allowing it to be rolled into sheets and wires. Zinc is stable in air due to passivation and can be easily ground into powder at 220°C. In powder form, zinc is pyrophoric and may ignite spontaneously in air. Zinc dissolves in acids, forming salts and hydrogen, and in alkalis, forming zincates. High-purity zinc (99.999%) is resistant to acids.
