Rhenium is a rare transition metal known for its exceptional hardness, high density, ductility, and one of the highest melting points after tungsten. It is highly resistant to non-oxidizing acids and is easily formed by processes such as deep drawing, bending, and pressing. Rhenium is also easily weldable and forgeable, stable in air, and only slightly soluble in oxidizing acids. Below 1.7 K, it exhibits superconducting properties.
If you are interested in purchasing rhenium, contact Evek GmbH. Our team is always ready to support you and answer your questions.
Rhenium is primarily used as an alloying element. In nickel-based superalloys, it enhances creep and fatigue resistance at high temperatures. Platinum-rhenium alloys are used in thermocouples for precise temperature measurement. Rhenium is also essential in platinum-rhenium catalysts, which increase the octane number of unleaded gasoline.
Main applications for rhenium include:
- Aircraft manufacturing (turbine blades);
- Petroleum industry (catalysts);
- Electrical industry (thermocouples);
- Mass spectrometry (hot cathodes, electrical contacts).
Key properties of rhenium metal:
- Exceptional hardness, high density, and ductility
- Excellent resistance to non-oxidizing acids
- Good formability, weldability, and forgeability
- Easily dissolves in oxidizing acids
- Stable in air
- Superconducting below 1.7 K
