Rhenium is a rare transition metal known for its exceptional hardness, high density, and ductility, as well as one of the highest melting points after tungsten. It resists non-oxidizing acids, is easily formed (deep drawing, bending, pressing), and offers excellent weldability and forgeability. Rhenium is stable in air, only slightly soluble in oxidizing acids, and becomes superconducting below 1.7 K.
If you wish to purchase rhenium, contact Evek GmbH. Our team is always ready to assist and answer your questions.
Rhenium is primarily used as an alloying element. In nickel-based superalloys, it enhances creep and fatigue resistance at high temperatures. Platinum-rhenium alloys are used for thermocouples, while platinum-rhenium catalysts increase the octane rating of unleaded gasoline.
Main applications of rhenium:
- Aircraft construction (turbine blades)
- Petroleum industry (catalysts)
- Electrical industry (thermocouples)
- Mass spectrometers (hot cathodes, switch contacts)
Key properties of rhenium metal:
- Exceptional hardness, density, and ductility
