Hafnium is a heavy metal known for its excellent corrosion resistance and can exist in two crystalline forms depending on temperature. In its pure state, hafnium is soft, ductile, and easy to roll or forge. It forms a protective oxide layer when exposed to air, shielding it from further oxidation. Hafnium is resistant to most acids and only dissolves in aqua regia and hydrofluoric acid at room temperature. When powdered, it is pyrophoric but remains non-toxic.
