Molybdenum is a transition metal known for its high strength, hardness, and toughness. It offers excellent ductility and is easy to process. Molybdenum has the highest melting point among the 5th period metals and resists attack from non-oxidizing acids and oxidizing alkaline melts. It dissolves in concentrated oxidizing acids such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid, or aqua regia. Thanks to its oxide layer, molybdenum is stable in air.
