Molybdenum resists attack by non-oxidizing acids and oxidizing alkaline melts but dissolves in oxidizing acids, such as concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid, or aqua regia. Thanks to its natural oxide layer, molybdenum remains stable in air.
