EN 1.4418 is a high strength, low carbon martensitic-austenitic stainless steel. It combines high strength with good weldability - properties that are retained after welding. EN 1.4418 is designed for applications in slightly corrosive environments where the above properties are required.
In our standard stock condition, the metal matrix is 80% martensite, 10% austenite, and 10% ferrite. This composition allows for a low-carbon martensitic structure after quenching and tempering. Martensite, some residual austenite, chromium and molybdenum together contribute to the following characteristics - high tensile strength, high toughness, better corrosion properties than most existing martensitic stainless steels and very good fatigue resistance.
