EN 1.4418 is a high-strength, low-carbon, martensitic-austenitic stainless steel. It offers excellent strength and good weldability, maintaining its properties even after welding. This steel is ideal for use in mildly corrosive environments where both strength and weldability are required.
In its standard stock condition, the metal consists of approximately 80% martensite, 10% austenite, and 10% ferrite. This balance allows for a low-carbon martensitic structure after quenching and tempering. The combination of martensite, some retained austenite, chromium, and molybdenum gives EN 1.4418 its high tensile strength, toughness, improved corrosion resistance compared to most martensitic stainless steels, and excellent fatigue resistance.
