Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy composed of about 65% nickel, 33% copper, and 2% iron. This material is known for its high tensile strength and outstanding resistance to corrosion, seawater, a wide range of acids, and alkalis. It maintains reliable mechanical properties at temperatures up to approximately 550°C and is not prone to stress corrosion cracking. Monel 400 is also resistant to hydrofluoric acid, fluorine, and related compounds, but it cannot be hardened.
