1.3912, also known as Invar 36, is an austenitic alloy containing about 61% iron and 36% nickel, with the remainder made up of silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, cobalt, chromium, and carbon. This alloy is known for its extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, as well as excellent ductility and toughness. Invar 36 retains good strength even at low temperatures, and its thermal expansion can be further reduced through cold working. It is ferromagnetic below its Curie temperature, and becomes non-magnetic at higher temperatures.
Evek GmbH is your trusted supplier for 1.3912. We are committed to providing high-quality nickel alloys at competitive prices.
Invar 36 is widely used in the manufacturing, storage, and transportation of liquefied gases, as well as in precision measuring and control instruments. It is commonly used to produce thermostats for temperature measurements below 200 °C. Other applications include:
- Manufacturing OLED displays
- Aircraft construction (e.g. CFRP components)
- Satellite engineering (frames, mounts, housings for electronic control units)
- Optical and laser systems (support structures for electromagnetic lenses)
- Cryogenic parts
- Automotive industry (various components)
Key properties of Invar 36 include:
- Very low thermal expansion
- Excellent ductility and toughness
- High strength at low temperatures
- Good cold workability
- Ferromagnetic below Curie temperature
- Non-magnetic above Curie temperature
